Cuenca has it all: Independence

Cuenca begins with its final emancipation Un 3 November 1820, when a group of young libertarians led by Tomás Ordoñez and José Sevilla, tried to take over the city square, making their intention effective 4 November with the help of the priest Javier Loyola and his followers. Although each 3 November celebrates with pride the independence of Cuenca, it is important to remember that the definitive emancipation was consolidated 21 February 1822, when the patriotic forces, under the command of Antonio José de Sucre, finally liberated the city from Spanish rule.
